This Farmington Wedding Was a Floral Daydream in Full Color
Okay, so picture this: itβs a scorching hot New England summer day, youβre surrounded by pine trees, thereβs the sound of clinking cornhole bags off in the distance, and your entire wedding smells like sunshine and dahlias. Dreamy, right?
That was the vibe for this wedding at Tunxis Country Clubβequal parts rustic retreat and floral fantasy. Think lots of color (I mean lots), garden-style arrangements that felt straight from the field, and a ceremony spot tucked down a little path like a secret. It was the kind of day that reminds me why I love what I doβand why I always keep extra deodorant in my car.
Whether you're here gathering inspo, planning your own wildflower moment, or just love stalking pretty blooms (same), come take a peek behind the scenes of this joyful, color-forward, letβs-do-this-thing wedding.
love note
βWe had an amazing experience with Emma, the flowers were beautiful! Everything from the planning to the wedding went smoothly and Emma was very mindful of our budget and very quick when we requested changes. Emma also found the exact Dahlia that was in my Pinterest board.β
bouqets and bouts
Letβs start with the bouquet becauseβwow. She was that girl.
This was one of those βgo big or go homeβ bridal bouquets, full of bold, playful, seasonal blooms: peachy orange dahlias, blushy garden roses, zinnias in all shades of pink and coral, cheery yellow marigolds, and just enough greenery to give it that natural, not-trying-too-hard thing we love.
The groomβs boutonniΓ¨re? A blush rose and a sprig of greenery. Simple, sweet, done. The rest of the wedding party followed suitβbridesmaids carried smaller versions of the main bouquet, and the groomsmen had matching bouts that tied it all together without stealing the show. It all popped so well against the deep burgundy dresses and the groomβs navy suit. Classic with a twist.
These kinds of personal flowers are where the personality really comes throughβand if youβre still in your early planning days, take this as your permission slip to lean into what you love. If you want neon cosmos or a little disco ball wired into your bouquet, Iβll make it happen.
fashion + details
Letβs take a sec for the fashion, shall we?
The bride wore a sleek white dress with a square neckline that felt timeless but cool. Minimalist in the best wayβlike, let-the-flowers-do-the-talking minimalist. The groom kept it classic with a navy suit and burgundy tie, which paired perfectly with his coral spray rose boutonniΓ¨re.
And the bridesmaids? Deep burgundy dresses that made every bouquet pop. The whole vibe was warm and rich and just a little moodyβperfect for a summer wedding that wasnβt afraid of color.
ceremony
Now this ceremonyβ¦ it felt like stepping into a storybook. You walked down this woodsy path, and boom: suddenly youβre in a big open field surrounded by towering pine trees and no traffic sounds. Just the wind, your people, and the occasional squirrel.
We dressed up the venueβs wooden arch with a set of low ceremony pieces filled with autumn olive branches, zinnias, marigolds, roses, and a few local dahlias that seriously showed up. The flowers were bright, cheerful, and a little wild in the best wayβlike nature had been saving up all her best blooms for this moment.
Down the aisle, we tied little posies to the chairs with ribbons that fluttered in the breeze like they were in a movie. It gave just enough color and movement to draw the eye without overwhelming the natural beauty of the setting.
Oh, and a fun behind-the-scenes moment: we actually foraged some of the greenery used in the ceremony install on-siteβwhich isnβt something we always do, but when youβre surrounded by pine groves and wild woods, sometimes youβve just gotta follow the muse (and your clippers).
That little adventure added such a cool layer of βthis is your placeβ to the day. Thatβs what I love about eco-friendly wedding flowersβtheyβre beautiful and personal, sourced thoughtfully, and often come with a good story.
reception
Letβs talk reception magic.
The pavilion at Tunxis Country Club is a gem: high wooden beams, open air, twinkle lights overheadβjust rustic enough to feel cozy but still elegant enough for your fancy shoes. Add in white linens, bright yellow napkins (love a bold tabletop moment), and floral centerpieces that feel like theyβve just been scooped up from the garden? Perfection.
The guest tables had glass vase arrangements bursting with peach dahlias, blush spray roses, yellow marigolds, pink lisianthus, antique carnations, andβof courseβmore zinnias. We kept the greenery wispy and romantic, which gave everything a soft, airy vibe without taking away from the color. These were statement centerpieces, but the kind that whispered instead of shouted.
The sweetheart table got its own special moment: a long, low arrangement packed with bright orange and yellow blooms and just the right amount of trailing greenery. It framed the couple beautifully without blocking the view (or the wine).
This space came alive as the sun went downβtwinkle lights kicked in, the dance floor filled up, and every bloom glowed just a little warmer in that golden-hour haze. Swoon.
This wedding was joyful, relaxed, and full of intention. It didnβt take itself too seriouslyβbut it also didnβt skimp on the magic.
We had bold florals that felt like summer in bloom, a dreamy forest ceremony that couldβve been a movie set, and a reception filled with laughter, dancing, and a lot of color. The whole thing just radiated warmthβfrom the yellow napkins to the happy tears to the sun-baked fields and forest.
As a Connecticut wedding florist, these are the kinds of days that stay with me. Not because theyβre βperfectβ (though this one was pretty close), but because they reflect the couple so honestly. The love, the laughter, the personal touches that make guests feel somethingβthatβs the good stuff.
If youβre planning your own wedding and wondering whether you can pull off a colorful, garden-style floral vibe with a little edge and a lot of heart? The answer is 100% yes. And Iβd love to help you bring it to life.
