This Farmington Wedding Was a Floral Daydream in Full Color
Okay, so picture this: it’s a scorching hot New England summer day, you’re surrounded by pine trees, there’s the sound of clinking cornhole bags off in the distance, and your entire wedding smells like sunshine and dahlias. Dreamy, right?
That was the vibe for this wedding at Tunxis Country Club—equal parts rustic retreat and floral fantasy. Think lots of color (I mean lots), garden-style arrangements that felt straight from the field, and a ceremony spot tucked down a little path like a secret. It was the kind of day that reminds me why I love what I do—and why I always keep extra deodorant in my car.
Whether you're here gathering inspo, planning your own wildflower moment, or just love stalking pretty blooms (same), come take a peek behind the scenes of this joyful, color-forward, let’s-do-this-thing wedding.
love note
“We had an amazing experience with Emma, the flowers were beautiful! Everything from the planning to the wedding went smoothly and Emma was very mindful of our budget and very quick when we requested changes. Emma also found the exact Dahlia that was in my Pinterest board.”
bouqets and bouts
Let’s start with the bouquet because—wow. She was that girl.
This was one of those “go big or go home” bridal bouquets, full of bold, playful, seasonal blooms: peachy orange dahlias, blushy garden roses, zinnias in all shades of pink and coral, cheery yellow marigolds, and just enough greenery to give it that natural, not-trying-too-hard thing we love.
The groom’s boutonnière? A blush rose and a sprig of greenery. Simple, sweet, done. The rest of the wedding party followed suit—bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the main bouquet, and the groomsmen had matching bouts that tied it all together without stealing the show. It all popped so well against the deep burgundy dresses and the groom’s navy suit. Classic with a twist.
These kinds of personal flowers are where the personality really comes through—and if you’re still in your early planning days, take this as your permission slip to lean into what you love. If you want neon cosmos or a little disco ball wired into your bouquet, I’ll make it happen.
fashion + details
Let’s take a sec for the fashion, shall we?
The bride wore a sleek white dress with a square neckline that felt timeless but cool. Minimalist in the best way—like, let-the-flowers-do-the-talking minimalist. The groom kept it classic with a navy suit and burgundy tie, which paired perfectly with his coral spray rose boutonnière.
And the bridesmaids? Deep burgundy dresses that made every bouquet pop. The whole vibe was warm and rich and just a little moody—perfect for a summer wedding that wasn’t afraid of color.
ceremony
Now this ceremony… it felt like stepping into a storybook. You walked down this woodsy path, and boom: suddenly you’re in a big open field surrounded by towering pine trees and no traffic sounds. Just the wind, your people, and the occasional squirrel.
We dressed up the venue’s wooden arch with a set of low ceremony pieces filled with autumn olive branches, zinnias, marigolds, roses, and a few local dahlias that seriously showed up. The flowers were bright, cheerful, and a little wild in the best way—like nature had been saving up all her best blooms for this moment.
Down the aisle, we tied little posies to the chairs with ribbons that fluttered in the breeze like they were in a movie. It gave just enough color and movement to draw the eye without overwhelming the natural beauty of the setting.
Oh, and a fun behind-the-scenes moment: we actually foraged some of the greenery used in the ceremony install on-site—which isn’t something we always do, but when you’re surrounded by pine groves and wild woods, sometimes you’ve just gotta follow the muse (and your clippers).
That little adventure added such a cool layer of “this is your place” to the day. That’s what I love about eco-friendly wedding flowers—they’re beautiful and personal, sourced thoughtfully, and often come with a good story.
reception
Let’s talk reception magic.
The pavilion at Tunxis Country Club is a gem: high wooden beams, open air, twinkle lights overhead—just rustic enough to feel cozy but still elegant enough for your fancy shoes. Add in white linens, bright yellow napkins (love a bold tabletop moment), and floral centerpieces that feel like they’ve just been scooped up from the garden? Perfection.
The guest tables had glass vase arrangements bursting with peach dahlias, blush spray roses, yellow marigolds, pink lisianthus, antique carnations, and—of course—more zinnias. We kept the greenery wispy and romantic, which gave everything a soft, airy vibe without taking away from the color. These were statement centerpieces, but the kind that whispered instead of shouted.
The sweetheart table got its own special moment: a long, low arrangement packed with bright orange and yellow blooms and just the right amount of trailing greenery. It framed the couple beautifully without blocking the view (or the wine).
This space came alive as the sun went down—twinkle lights kicked in, the dance floor filled up, and every bloom glowed just a little warmer in that golden-hour haze. Swoon.
This wedding was joyful, relaxed, and full of intention. It didn’t take itself too seriously—but it also didn’t skimp on the magic.
We had bold florals that felt like summer in bloom, a dreamy forest ceremony that could’ve been a movie set, and a reception filled with laughter, dancing, and a lot of color. The whole thing just radiated warmth—from the yellow napkins to the happy tears to the sun-baked fields and forest.
As a Connecticut wedding florist, these are the kinds of days that stay with me. Not because they’re “perfect” (though this one was pretty close), but because they reflect the couple so honestly. The love, the laughter, the personal touches that make guests feel something—that’s the good stuff.
If you’re planning your own wedding and wondering whether you can pull off a colorful, garden-style floral vibe with a little edge and a lot of heart? The answer is 100% yes. And I’d love to help you bring it to life.
