A Romantic Lavender Baby Shower at a Private Fairfield County Estate
Rather than a traditional baby shower, this celebration unfolded more like a long, lingering lunch — hosted at home, styled with intention, and designed to honor a growing family in a way that felt personal and unforced. Set at a private Fairfield County residence overlooking the water, the afternoon blended softness and structure in equal measure. The goal was never to stage a moment, but to create an environment — one that felt warm, elevated, and deeply connected to the people gathered there. Everything about the day was designed to encourage ease: conversation flowing naturally, guests lingering longer than planned, and a sense that nothing needed to be rushed.
From the start, the design intent centered on creating a luxurious yet intimate gathering that felt grounded in family rather than formality. The hosts envisioned something refined but relaxed — a setting where everyone could face one another, share a meal, and celebrate together without the traditional rhythms of a baby shower. A U-shaped table layout became the foundation of the design, instantly shifting the energy from “event” to “gathering.” The palette followed suit: soft lavender, pale blush, and warm, earthy tones that felt romantic without being overly sweet. The result was an atmosphere that felt elevated but approachable — polished, yet unmistakably personal.

floral design
The florals were designed to feel lush, abundant, and organic — never stiff or overly styled. Centerpieces alternated between low round bowls and petite compote arrangements, creating visual rhythm while keeping the tables intimate and functional. The floral palette included café au lait dahlias, blush ranunculus, apricot local foxglove, autumn olive foliage, mauve garden roses from Grace Rose Farm, local peach zinnias, and chocolate Queen Anne’s lace.
Each arrangement was composed to feel layered and natural, with subtle movement and variation that mirrored the surrounding landscape. Nothing felt overly symmetrical or precious — the goal was florals that felt alive, tactile, and in conversation with the setting rather than competing with it.
All table arrangements were intentionally kept low due to the open-air tent and water views, allowing guests to see one another easily and keeping the focus on connection rather than spectacle. To introduce height without disrupting the flow, a pair of oversized columns with tall, reaching floral arrangements marked the entrance to the tent, creating a sense of arrival while maintaining balance throughout the space.
event design + guest experience
Beyond the florals, the event design itself set the tone for the day. The tent became a room rather than a structure — fully draped in soft ivory fabric and layered with cascading crystal chandeliers that caught the afternoon light and softened it as the day unfolded. Long farmhouse trestle tables anchored the space, their weathered wood adding warmth beneath gauzy lavender cheesecloth runners, while clear Chiavari chairs kept the room feeling open and airy.
Shell chargers added a subtle nod to the coastal setting, paired with elegant ridged glassware and refined flatware that elevated the tablescape without feeling formal. Mini lanterns dotted the tables, casting a warm glow as the afternoon moved toward evening.
A sculptural balloon arch in blush, lavender, and warm neutral tones marked the focal point of the space—playful in spirit, but executed with restraint and scale so it felt cohesive with the surrounding design rather than juvenile. Positioned intentionally within the tent, it acted as both a visual anchor and a subtle nod to celebration, balancing softness with structure. Lounge moments layered just outside the main dining area invited guests to drift and linger, while cocktail and gift stations were styled with the same attention to detail, ensuring every corner of the event felt considered. The result was an atmosphere that felt warm, elevated, and deeply personal—proof that a baby shower can be every bit as thoughtfully designed as a wedding, just with a lighter touch and a little more joy.
The tent was opened fully toward the water, allowing a light breeze to move through the space and reinforcing the feeling that the celebration belonged exactly where it was. Outside the tent, chic gold high-top tables with marble tops required no linens and were styled simply alongside a library-style gift table accented with floral moments. A classical guitar guitarist played during cocktail hour, adding a soft auditory layer that complemented the natural surroundings rather than overpowering them.
Every design decision — from layout to lighting — was made with longevity in mind. The lighting plan allowed guests to linger under the chandeliers long after vendors had packed up, extending the life of the celebration and reinforcing the idea that this was time meant to be savored.
What made this baby shower especially meaningful was how clearly it reflected the people it was designed for. This wasn’t about tradition or spectacle — it was about gathering loved ones close and celebrating a moment of transition with intention and care.
Because we were responsible for both the event design and florals from the ground up, we were able to shape the experience holistically. Hosting at the client’s home mattered deeply to them, but privacy and ease mattered just as much. By positioning the tent at the highest point of the yard and opening it toward the water, the celebration felt expansive yet intimate — connected to the landscape without inviting the world inside.
Celebrating a new baby carries a different energy than celebrating a wedding. There’s a tenderness to it, a desire to slow down and be present. This day captured that beautifully — honoring not just what’s ahead, but the family and friendships that made it possible.
