Smith Farm Gardens Weddings: A New England Garden Venue Seen Through a Floral Designer’s Eye
Smith Farm Gardens is the quintessential New England country garden — immersive, romantic, and quietly transportive.
Tucked deep into the woods and spread across acres of meticulously maintained grounds, it feels less like a traditional wedding venue and more like stepping into a living landscape. Every path, hedge, and clearing feels intentional, yet nothing feels overworked.
Smith Farm Gardens offers something increasingly rare: the feeling of hosting an alfresco garden celebration without the chaos that often comes with it. The experience is polished, the operations are seamless, and the setting delivers all the magic of a fairy-garden party — minus the mud, bugs, or unpredictability. It’s a venue that allows couples to lean fully into beauty, nature, and atmosphere, while trusting that everything behind the scenes will run flawlessly.
Why We Love Designing at Smith Farm Gardens
Smith Farm Gardens is iconic for First Blush because it gives us an incredible amount of creative freedom. Every angle of the property supports our design sensibility — soft, romantic, garden-forward — while still allowing space for modern, chic, or fashion-led moments to shine. Even when we push toward something cleaner or more contemporary, there’s always an undercurrent of romance that naturally softens the result.
This is also a venue that rewards thoughtful floral design. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception spaces are spread across the property, which means each area needs to feel intentional on its own while still belonging to a cohesive whole. While the venue itself is a well-oiled machine, the scale of the grounds requires careful pacing and planning.
One constant here: we spend a lot of time on the ground. Long garden arches, planted aisle moments, and organic installations always need on-site adjustment once they’re placed among the flowers and grass. No matter how much is prepared in advance, Smith Farm Gardens asks you to respond to the landscape — and that’s part of what makes the work feel alive.
Wedding Highlights at Smith Farm Gardens
A High-Fashion Garden Wedding at Smith Farm Gardens
Organic neutrals, local blooms, and effortless restraint
This wedding balanced high fashion with an intentionally undone ease. The energy was timeless and elevated, but never precious — the goal was for everything to feel considered, yet almost as if it had come together naturally.
The floral palette leaned into organic neutrals, with a strong emphasis on locally grown blooms. Connecticut hydrangea and Queen Anne’s lace were gathered into a loose, flowing bridal bouquet that felt airy and unstructured. Because the day was particularly hot, the bouquet required careful handling — always returning to water between photos — a quiet behind-the-scenes detail that ensured delicate blooms stayed fresh through the evening.
The ceremony took place in the apple orchard, framed by simple baskets of Limelight hydrangea and a greenery-clad arch. Nothing felt forced or overly styled — the florals felt as though they belonged exactly where they were placed.
For the reception, etched glass hurricanes anchored each table, filled with olive-toned candles and surrounded by bud vases holding delicate, reaching stems. A long head table was styled with alternating pillars and the same airy bud vase groupings, creating a soft rhythm across the space. Repurposing was minimal here by design — the focus was on restraint, seasonality, and letting the setting speak. A perfect summer evening sealed the magic.

A Color-Forward Garden Celebration at Smith Farm Gardens
Joyful palettes, bold movement, and fearless expression
This wedding was pure energy. Color was the brief — unapologetic, vibrant, and full of life — and the design delivered impact without overwhelming the landscape.
The bridal bouquet was a gathered composition of yellow and magenta garden roses, orange spray roses, fuchsia sweet pea, local cosmos, blue delphinium, peach dahlias, and seasonal supporting blooms. The result felt joyful and expansive, yet still grounded in the garden.
The ceremony took place beneath the existing garden arch, with florals designed directly into the surrounding greenery for an immersive, organic effect. An ombré planted aisle created a moment of arrival that felt playful yet intentional.
For the reception, tables alternated between vibrant low compotes and lighter bud vase groupings, maintaining visual balance while allowing color to take center stage. Nearly every ceremony element was repurposed — from aisle plantings to arrangements at the seating display, band area, and bar — ensuring the design evolved throughout the evening.
This wedding worked so beautifully here because it leaned fully into the season. Smith Farm Gardens can absolutely hold bold color when it’s done with confidence, and this celebration proved just how striking that approach can be.

A Modern Garden Wedding with a Fashion Lens
Sculptural whites, subtle color, and playful refinement
This wedding embraced a more modern, chic aesthetic — a direction chosen late in the planning process, to spectacular effect. The shift toward a cleaner palette allowed the design to feel fresh and current, while still rooted in the surrounding gardens.
The ceremony featured crisp white columns filled with roses, cascading green amaranthus, white lisianthus, local cafe au lait dahlias, and Limelight hydrangea. Trailing ivory silk bows marked the aisle, adding a soft, unexpected contrast to the sculptural floral forms.
The reception featured hurricanes anchoring tables and bud vase groupings filled with local flowers — this time accented with hanging amaranthus for movement. The bar became a focal moment, layered intentionally to feel celebratory without excess.
Everything came together under the tent with ease, proving once again that Smith Farm Gardens can support a wide range of aesthetics — from romantic to modern — without losing its sense of place.

What Works Best at Smith Farm Gardens
Smith Farm Gardens offers several beautiful ceremony locations, each with its own personality — and the most successful designs lean into that flexibility. Marrying beneath the hedge and building florals directly into the existing arch creates a truly immersive ceremony moment, while the apple orchard delivers a timeless New England backdrop that photographs beautifully every time.
Floral installations shine here when they’re designed to interact with the oversized cocktail-hour bar, which naturally becomes a gathering point for guests. Thoughtful design in this space doesn’t just look good — it elevates the entire flow of the celebration.
Golden hour is not optional at Smith Farm Gardens. The light filtering through the trees and across the gardens creates some of the most stunning portrait moments on the property, and planning for it makes a noticeable difference in both photos and pacing.
There’s no single “right” color palette for this venue, but designs rooted in local, seasonal blooms always feel the most at home. When the flowers reflect what’s growing nearby, the entire event feels more intentional and authentic.
Because Smith Farm Gardens is an open-air venue with natural movement between spaces, comfort and practicality are just as important as aesthetics. The best events here balance beauty with flow, shade, and guest experience.
